Fire crews plan to begin ignitions on the Azalea Prescribed Fire in Kings Canyon National Park on Sunday, October 4th, weather and air quality conditions permitting.
This 64 acre unit is located south of the community of Wilsonia and east of Highway 180. Ignitions will likely take one to two days to complete.
Map of the affected area
The Prescribed Burn went as planned, the report from Wilsonia was that there was very little smoke drifting into the village. The only problem reported was some downed phone lines, affecting service for cabin owners in the southwest corner of the village.
From Reedley, I could clearly see the plume of smoke from the fire (nice to be able to pinpoint the position of Wilsonia from my house.)
